Great Places To Visit - Sydney, N.S.W., Australia

Four days in beautiful Sydney, staying on the North side at Milsons Point. How can I describe it to you?.......Magic!  Just up the street from "the old coat hanger" (the bridge), we could just see the Grand Opera House peeking around the corner at us from our 14th floor room at the Vibe hotel. Nice stay, comfy, and nice food, pleasant staff. We ate in our room a couple of nights and down at the bar another night. Friendly staff, nice food. Anyway, we had a good time playing tourist.

In Sydney you can get a "day ticket" for public transport (at least at the time of writing this you could) which was about $28 each. We hopped on a ferry and took a ride to Darling Harbour and back past Milsons Point to Circular Quay, where we hopped on another ferry to Manly - just 'cause we could. It was a lovely day, calm water, warm, really enjoyed the ferry rides. The water was calm so the ride was smooth.

We also went to Luna Park - yes Sydney has a Luna Park. It was literally just down the street from us, right next to the bridge. Felt like a kid again looking (note: looking not riding on) the rides. Enjoyed watching the more adventurous types go on the rides and I took pictures with my iphone. That's my style, feet firmly on the ground, no wizzing around in the air for me, not likely, unless it's a plane!

Anyway we had a great time, caught the train (supper easy, it's practically at the front door of the Vibe), and went "into town" for a vegan dinner (the things we suffer for family - we're not vegan), with my brother and his wife. The restaurant was near Saint Mary's Cathedral, so wasn't too hard to find. The food was actually ok, although I think Bernie would have preferred a steak with chips and salad! Still we can put it down to experience, and it was actually very tasty.

Enough waffling on, here are the photos to let you see what a lovely city Sydney is, we look forward to more trips there in the future. Do yourself a favour and put it on you "must visit" list.

Great Places To Visit: Tocumwal NSW on the Murray River.

Perhaps I'm a little prejudiced, as Tocumwal is my home town, but I've always loved the Murray River Red Gums and watching the river & the bird, animal life here. All year around it delights me. Even the noisy Corella's can't put me off, I love living here. So why would a visitor want to spend time in Toc? Let me list just a small few off its attractions for you: Water sports: Fishing, skiing, swimming, canoeing, and any other water play you might like. Food: We have a number of Pubs, Clubs, Restaurants & Cafes if not in town then in easy driving distant. BIG variety for good old schnitzels, salads & chips to take-a-way favorites, great Coffee & Cakes and Bakery delights to tempt the taste buds!!  If you're an Artist or Photographer then Toc is a plethora of diverse landscapes to draw (pun intended) your attention. I for one have never tired of its beauty.  For the traveler's in their campers or caravans Toc has a selection of options for you to

Great Storm to Watch - Over Tocumwal N.S.W. Australia - Mini Tornado

A mini Tornado struck Strathmerton on the weekend of October 31/10/15 destroying a couple of houses. Luckily no one was hurt. Just a bit further along the Murray River at Tocumwal the Tornado ended. We happened to be home and live near the edge of town, close to the river.  We saw the sky turn pink, grey and green. Ominous. Can't remember a stormy grey sky turning pink or especially green before. Made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Then we heard this roar.  Bernie looked at me as we stood on our back verandah watching the clouds flying about and said "What's that noise?" I replied, "Wind. Lots of it. I think we should go inside now." As I said this we saw the sky along the river turn green and pink and the trees begin to whip wildly. We retreated inside for a bit and as the roar died away we ventured back out to the front verandah as torrential rain began to fall. And boy did it rain!!! The early afternoon turned dark as the clouds above turned

It's Baby Magpie Season

Yes it's Spring again. I know because the local magpies have 2 babies. I know this because I occasionally throw out scraps on my back lawn to supplement their food rations and they are regular visitors. This week they brought me a present.....2 babies. Must be a good season this year to be raising 2 babies instead of 1. Anyway the magpies here in Melbourne are white backed magpies as apposed to the magpies at Tocumwal in N.S.W. which are black backed magpies. Also the birds here in Melb. are larger than their northern cousins, probably all the McDonalds they eat down here! I enjoy listening to their warbling song and can't help but shake my head at the patience and persistence of the adult birds constantly being "harassed" by the chicks for food. They are noisy little critters when they are hungry and very bossy, often pecking at the adult birds for more food. I've named them....squarker 1 and squarker 2, they never seem to stop. Poor parent birds, these chicks a
