Orchids

Just love it when my orchids flower. Especially since I'm really bad at caring for them, they mostly have to make do on their own. Occasionally I remember to water the poor things, and about once a year I might remember to liquid feed them. Still they are very loyal and continue to flower. This year my favorite is "Tetleys Little Fireball". A lovely red which had 6 flower spikes on it with 18 to 21 flowers per spike. I was really impressed with this effort. I wonder how many spikes and how many flowers per spike it would have if I gave it some attention? Perhaps it prefers to be ignored. Anyway, it looking good, so I've cut the spikes and brought them inside to enjoy them. Orchids make great cut flowers as they last for ages. My other orchid to flower this year was "Chocolate Brown". It's the first pic. My yellow hasn't any flower spikes this year and my green one has one flower spike, but hasn't opened as yet. It always seems to be the last one ...

The First Signs of Spring

On my recent drive through the country I couldn't help but notice the first signs of Spring. So pretty. The pink blossoms, the canola fields bright yellow, the gorgeous puffy golden blooms of wattle. Thought I would share a couple with you. Spring storms with their fluffy clouds at sunset also get my attention.

Murray River Red Gums

So far in my time on this planet, there is only one thing that I have seen, that truly gives me peace inside, and brings a soft smile to my lips. Murray River Red Gums. I know that may sound strange to some of you, but when I need to relax, unwind, de-stress, than up to Tocumwal I go and down to walk along the Murray River banks with camera in hand. My favorite time of day is early, sunrise, or late afternoon when you get the most beautiful soft amber lights, especially in Autumn. Even though the river is low, the textures in the bark, the twists and twirls in the limbs on the trees, and the majestic size of some of these beautiful trees truly touches me. Nothing brings me more peace than to wander amongst these giants of nature and try to capture their beauty as the sun sets through their twisted and gnarly limbs. I've captured a few shoots recently and thought I would share them with you. I hope you enjoy them. ...

Easter Break at Camperdown, vic.

Stayed in Camperdown with the Ivanhoe Photo Club this Easter. All 18 of us had a great time. Took lots of photos. Good food, wine etc was enjoyed by all. We enjoyed dinner at the Hampden Hotel which was excellent on a couple of nights and our accommodation at the Cascade Motel was very comfortable and the staff very friendly. All together a nice relaxing break away.  We toured around the local area and down to the coast which was only a 45min drive away. Then back to Melbourne...and back to work. Ooh well, there's always next Easter to look forward to! Another venue and another adventure!
